Built to Provide Peace of Mind for Community Associations

Hirzel Law was founded in 2018 with a clear purpose: to provide peace of mind to condominium and homeowners associations. Serving on a condominium or homeowners association board can be challenging. Community association board members are responsible for enforcing governing documents, collecting assessments, complying with evolving laws, and making key decisions, all with little training.

Community association law is a highly specialized area of practice that is not commonly taught in law schools. Many attorneys handle condominium or homeowners association issues only occasionally as part of a broader general practice. Hirzel Law was created to change that. Unlike many law firms that occasionally handle community association matters, Hirzel Law focuses on representing condominium and homeowners associations in the legal issues they face every day.

Since opening in Farmington, Michigan, Hirzel Law has grown to serve more than 2,000 clients in community association matters throughout Michigan and Illinois. Today, Hirzel Law serves community associations throughout Michigan and Illinois with offices in Farmington, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Chicago, and Skokie.

Nationally Recognized in Community Association Law

Hirzel Law attorneys are recognized nationally for their work in community association law.

Kevin Hirzel and Matt Heron are Fellows of the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), a distinction held by fewer than 200 attorneys nationwide. Kevin Hirzel also serves on the CCAL National Board of Governors and has served on the CAI National Board of Trustees.

Hirzel Law attorneys have been recognized by Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and Leading Lawyers, and frequently speak and publish on issues affecting condominium and homeowners associations. Kevin Hirzel is also the author of Hirzel’s Handbook: How to Operate a Michigan Condo or HOA (Third Edition) and Hirzel’s Handbook: How to Operate an Illinois Condo or HOA (Second Edition), practical guides used by community association boards. National media outlets, including Dr. Drew, Fox News, Fox Business, CNBC, NPR, and the Wall Street Journal, have featured his work on community association issues.

Advocating for Condominium and Homeowners Associations

Hirzel Law has helped shape community association law through appellate advocacy, legislative involvement, and legal education. Hirzel Law attorneys have secured important appellate victories in community association cases, prepared amicus briefs for the Community Associations Institute in the Michigan Supreme Court, and worked with legislators at the state and federal levels on issues affecting community associations.

Serving Community Associations Throughout Michigan and Illinois

As Hirzel Law continues to grow, our mission remains the same: helping condominium and homeowners associations navigate complex legal issues while giving board members the peace of mind that experienced counsel is on their side.
