The Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly published an article on the formation of Hirzel Law, PLC by Kevin Hirzel, Matt Heron, Joe Wloszek, and Brandan Hallaq.  Kevin Hirzel, the managing member of Hirzel Law, PLC, discussed the depth of experience of the attorneys at Hirzel Law, PLC in condominium and homeowners association law.  Specifically, Hirzel stated that “[w]e have 85 combined years of experience doing this. This is primarily what we do and we’re going to continue servicing clients throughout the state, so we probably represent approximately 200 condominium homeowner associations all over the state.”

The article discusses the various services offered by Hirzel Law, PLC and states as follows:

In terms of services the firm offers, Hirzel said a couple of attorneys solely do collection work that involves liens and foreclosures when residents don’t pay their condo or HOA assessments.
Another pair of attorneys focus on bylaw enforcement for when residents violate routine rules like leasing or pet restrictions.“We also do transactional work. I have another attorney who only drafts and amends the governing documents for various associations,” Hirzel said. “I do major litigation cases involving the developer or issues involving the first impression, interpreting the condominium act or other issues.”
Hirzel said he’s active in testifying on legislation in order to influence that area of the law to create favorable environments for associations.

The article also identifies the latest legal trends in condominium law and homeowners association law.  Specifically,

One trend that Hirzel has noticed is an increase in fair housing cases involving emotional support animals. These cases have led to many associations updating their documents.
“There are certainly issues related to disability and religion that frequently arise under that particular statute as well,” Hirzel said. “What we do on behalf of our clients is trying to get their legal documents to adapt to technological changes. Sometimes, the law is slow to adapt to that as far as legislation goes. We try to help them craft documents that anticipate issues.”
