Jeremy Fernando

Jeremy Fernando is a dedicated and accomplished associate attorney specializing in community association law and litigation. He earned his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School, graduating with honors and ranking in the top 15% of his class. During his time at Marquette, Mr. Fernando distinguished himself as an Associate Editor of the Marquette Law Review. He was an active member of the Pro Bono Society, contributing significantly to the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic. During law school, Mr. Fernando served as a Summer Associate at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, and completed internships with The Honorable Lynn Adelman at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and The Honorable Rebecca Dallet at the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Before joining Hirzel Law, PLC, Mr. Fernando was a member of the Corporate Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office, where he represented insurance companies and other institutional investors in U.S. and cross-border private placements of securities. Mr. Fernando focused his practice on private placement financings, project financings, credit tenant lease financings, and other types of secured and unsecured lending transactions. His international experience includes transactions in the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Australia, and Germany.

Mr. Fernando has experience counseling and advising clients in all aspects of condominium law, including drafting and preparing governing document amendments, drafting and preparing rules and regulations, bylaw enforcement, drafting opinion letters on community association issues, attending community association meetings, collection matters, and litigation matters, including breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty, among others.

Mr. Fernando has also conducted numerous presentations on community association law for homeowners, property managers, and community associations in Illinois. Mr. Fernando has also written numerous articles on various issues community associations face for ilhoalaw.com and the Illinois Community Associations Institute magazine. He is actively involved with the Illinois Chapter of Community Associations Institute, where he serves as the Vice Chair of the Golf Committee and as a member of the Magazine Committee. Mr. Fernando also serves as the Vice Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Residential Real Property Law – Condominium Subcommittee.

Before law school, Mr. Fernando graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in History, where he also honed his advocacy skills as a member of the Moot Court Team.
